I bought a set of torx screw drivers for $3 then following the ifixit instructions I replaced the display on my ibook with another one. So now it works and I can use my ibook again. Yay
It was not easy to get over my intimidation about digging around in the innards of my laptop. On the whole, things went very smoothly. I printed the screw guide sheet on which I placed all the screws, as I removed them, into each labeled box.
It actually took me four tries. At first, convinced it was only a loose connection, I just adjusted the display cables.
Eventually, as I got more confident taking the ibook apart, I knew I would have to replace the display
In case you are wondering I just happened to have an extra display lying around. It is part of an old ibook I’m using for parts.
The power plug on the old ibook was not working. The warranty had ran out so I took it to some components guy to replace, but the guy was an idiot and short circuited the mother board. Luckily, London Drugs had an ibook with a bigger hardrive, which they let me buy for $350. The idiot components guy paid for it and moved the stuff off the old hardrive and on to the new one. Hence, the reason for having another display just lying around.
So now my laptop is working again and I feel more creative already.
