Our New House

We moved into our new house near the end of November 2006. It was not finished but most of the floors were in, all the appliances were connected, a bathroom was almost finished and there were a few cupboards although they had no doors. We knew we would finish the rest slowly as we had time and money.

Below are all the journal entries which describe the building of our log house. You can view the photos as they are posted here. Click on each picture to see a bigger version or view the slide show.

we are not new to building. In our previous log house we added a log addition, a wooden deck and completely renovated the inside. We were ignorant of the necessity of building permits and inspections. It made no difference to the livability of the house.

This time, since we are starting from the beginning, buying raw land, getting bank loans etc we have to go the accepted, if not frustrating and expensive route set out by the regional district. The other reason is because of the new homeowners protection act. It was put in place because of the leaky condo fiasco in the lower mainland. It's to protect buyers of new homes and to improve the quality of residential construction. Everything should be fine unless we want to sell it before the ten years are up.
